Trout Skin Scarf
Cotton, Wool, Tinsel
This weaving is a tribute to the unassuming yet beautiful rainbow trout. I have always loved the beauty of subtle color gradients that can be found on fish scales and skin. Fish have always been a meaningful motif in my upbringing. My grandpa is an avid freshwater fisherman and breeds tropical fish in his home in Eau Claire. I’ve always been inspired by the passion the members of my family exhibit for the things and people they love. This waffle weave scarf took many hours and lots of care to complete and I hope the love put into the process is reflected in the final piece. Skin is a textile that we often don’t think about in that exact language. Once skin is a textile it becomes leather which is why I found translating fish skin into a woven piece to be an especially interesting challenge.

Elko Flea Market Towel Screen Print
For this project, I got to experiment with hand rendering a repeat pattern and exposing it onto a silkscreen. I drew inspiration from The Elko Flea Market in Minnesota, where I have found many of my favorite vintage and antique treasures such as Kewpie dolls, 1970s ceramics, prairie dress patterns, and Red Wing boots.
Prairie School House Set
Linen
For this project, I was tasked with creating a full look from scratch inspired by specific architectural monuments or movements. I have always been enamored with the Prairie School House aesthetic pioneered by architects like Wisconsin native Frank Lloyd Wright. Living in Madison made my primary research quite easy as the city has an abundance of remarkable Prairie School House architectural examples, such as the Larson House. Prairie School design is characterized by its emphasis on the horizontal over the vertical. I made line and right angles the emphasis of this ensemble while also drawing inspiration from the popular angular styles of the 1910s and 1920s.

Nephilim are Biblically derived creatures and are described as the offspring of angels procreating with humans. Nephlim are mysterious and sit in a sort of demi god-like liminal space of being both human and divine. The Nephilim Capsule collection explores this dichotomy by being a marriage or the terrestrial and celestial. Inspired by the magic of the cosmos and the humanness of Earth I sought to combine some of my favorite fantasy and historical styles with modern colors and design elements to create an otherworldly series of gowns and accessories unlike any I’ve seen before. Every piece was fully designed, patterned and/or draped by myself, the headpieces included.

Sacred Heart Blazer and Immaculate Conception skirt are all a part of the American Seraphim Set, a baroque take on the classic catholic school uniform.

These embroidery pieces and sampler were created for my textile embellishment course. I love embroidery and the intricate pictures and stories it can tell, it’s almost like painting with thread. When it comes to garment design and construction the details are really what make something special to me. All these pieces were inspired by the imagery that comes to mind when I think of my childhood and upbringing in Eau Claire, WI. I feel so blessed to have grown up surrounded by nature so I try and pay homage to it in most of my work.

Quilted Cotton, Crochet Lace, Velvet Ribbon, Bells
The Quilted Coat was my first sewing project at school. The assignment was to pick a word from a set list and design a jacket around that word. My word was winter. Given my love of Scandinavian aesthetics, I pulled much of my inspiration from Swedish and Norwegian styles and folk dress. The garment itself was made from a pattern I altered and trimmed with crochet lace, velvet ribbon, Bias tape, floral trim, and little golden bells on the edges of the bell sleeves.
